About This Destination
Rumanyika
Rumanyika-Karagwe National Park was gazetted in 2019 as part of Tanzania's effort to extend protection to its northwestern forest and savanna landscapes. The park sits in the Karagwe region near the Uganda border, protecting habitat that serves as a corridor for elephants and other wildlife moving between Tanzania and Uganda.
The landscape combines riverine forest along the Kagera River, open savanna, and rocky hills covered in miombo woodland. Elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, sitatunga, and over 300 bird species are present.
Like Burigi-Chato nearby, Rumanyika is a park for future-oriented travelers — those who want to explore Tanzania before the crowds arrive.
