About This Destination
Ibanda-Kyerwa
Ibanda-Kyerwa National Park was gazetted in 2019, forming part of Tanzania's commitment to expanding its protected area network in the northwest. It sits alongside Rumanyika-Karagwe and Burigi-Chato in a cluster of new parks that together create a significant conservation corridor near the Uganda border.
The park protects savanna grassland, woodland, and riverine forest habitats. Wildlife includes elephants, buffalo, leopard, Uganda kob, and a rich bird fauna. Infrastructure remains at a pioneer level — this is a destination for adventurous travelers who value wilderness over comfort.
Combined with the other northwest parks and a journey to Lake Victoria, Ibanda-Kyerwa forms part of a genuinely unusual Tanzania itinerary that very few visitors have ever experienced.
