About This Destination
Mikumi
Mikumi National Park sits adjacent to Nyerere National Park and shares its wildlife, its landscapes, and almost none of its visitors. Just five hours from Dar es Salaam, it's the most accessible major park in southern Tanzania — but accessibility has not come at the cost of quality.
The Mkata Floodplain at the heart of the park supports large herds of wildebeest, zebra, and buffalo alongside elephants, lions, leopard, and wild dogs. The 'Hippo Pool' near the main gate is one of the best hippo-viewing sites in Tanzania. Giraffes are conspicuously common, as are baboons and impala.
Mikumi is an ideal destination for those combining it with Nyerere for a full southern circuit, or for Dar es Salaam residents wanting a quick, high-quality wildlife experience.
