About This Destination

Saadani

Saadani National Park is genuinely unique in East Africa: the only place on the continent where Indian Ocean beach meets active Big Five game country. Lions really do walk on the sand here. Elephants move through the coastal forest and mangroves. Green sea turtles nest on beaches that are also game drive routes.

The park sits north of Dar es Salaam and can be reached by boat along the Wami River — a river safari that delivers hippos, crocodiles, and coastal forest birding before depositing you at a beach camp. The combination of bush and beach in a single destination is something genuinely hard to find anywhere in the world.

Saadani is an emerging destination — camps are improving, infrastructure is developing, and the wildlife is establishing itself. Coming now means arriving before the crowds, and that is always the best time.
